The Grinch Who Stole Christmas Bus Sign Space.

Photobucket

Atheists are always denying that that they have an organization. they just a loose collection of people with one thing in common. What is that one thing? you might think it's that they happen just not to believe in God? No that's not it, they can raise money for bus signs and bill boards around the country to ruin other people's special time. They also have campaigns in England, New Zea land and all over. It's clearly more than just a loose collection of people with lack of an idea in common.

CBS ch11 DFW

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – An atheist group in North Texas is launching another advertising campaign this week, and after hearing about it, some Fort Worth religious leaders are planning to boycott the company providing the ad space.

The DFW Coalition of Reason announced Monday that it will be using bus billboards in Fort Worth to spread the gospel of non theism during the month of December.

Signs that read ‘Millions of Americans are good without God’ will appear on four buses belonging to the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, better known as ‘The T’ through December, a time many are celebrating religious holidays.

Joan Hunter, spokeswoman for the T, said the signs will not be on the buses before Monday, Dec. 6. Production of the boards took longer than expected because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

In April of 2009, also a time of religious holidays, the DFW Coalition of Reason launched a similar billboard campaign, placing billboards along I-35E in Dallas and I-35W in Fort Worth. Those Billboards read, ‘Don’t believe in God? You are not alone.’

The Coalition bought the ad space on four buses for $2,600. The campaign runs through the beginning of the year.

The T runs 180 buses through the city of Fort Worth.

Obviously they have a national organization. who has time and effort to put into that. I find this to be a hateful thing. Who campaigns against other people's Holidays?

the Blog Faith and Theology offers a contest to come up with the best slogan for the sign. here are some suggestions. they have 91 comments but I'm not satisfied with what Ive seen so far so here are a couple of my own.

"Well how about your big stupid invisible pink sky pixie, is he going to give you a good Christmas?"

"you better not cry, better not pout, I'm telling you why becuase the flying spaghetti monster is being defined into existence."
Only 26 more days to mock and ridicule Christian posters before their big holiday.
It's a lost art.

Are you denying that millions of people are Good Without God?

I really don't know why Christians see this as an attack on them; it's just a statement of fact. It doesn't say anything about anyone else's beliefs, it certainly isn't a campaign against "other people's Holidays."

The only hate here is coming from bigots like you who take offense at the simple fact that not everyone believes the same things about God that you do.

Liar; read your own links:

"The Coalition bought the ad space on four buses for $2,600.

And I'm so sorry that the mere existence of people who don't share your religious beliefs ruins your "special time" but what are you going to do? Maybe you could put us all in special camps....? ;-)

but I couldn't work that into my Grinch joke. do they really have to destroy your sense of humor when they brain wash you? I'll have to speak to them about their brain washing methods.

What you are talking about is the doing of ONE organisation. Not some global (or even country wide) organisation - but a bunch of locals who grouped together.

And no, despite what you said (and haven't corrected, despite it's already being pointed out), they can't raise 2 million dollars - they raised 2 thousand dollars.

And no, not to ruin anybody's 'special time'. All they are doing is reminding people that there are millions of atheists. If there's a person whose Christmas is ruined by being reminded of the fact that there are atheists, I'll be very surprised.

It's international. they do the bus sign thing in England. It's strong enough to raise 2 million dollars that's going to be a major organization.

atheists tell me there is no organization. I've don't other posts that show a lot more signs of a much larger group and much more coordination.

And no, despite what you said (and haven't corrected, despite it's already being pointed out), they can't raise 2 million dollars - they raised 2 thousand dollars.

O really what do you base that upon. what you want to be true? the article said they already did it.

check the numbers, 3% of world population that's all they are. Why should we be reminded there are any?

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

ahahh wow! Hermit is right. I guess my dyslexia was really on the blink that day. I have to retract the 2 million thing.

I can't believe I did that. Well fortunately that's not the dumbest thing I've ever done.

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

The atheist propaganda about a persecuted minority is really precious to them. that gives them victim status so their powerful organizations that coming to control so much in the world remain invisible their vast political organization and their propaganda remain invisible and they trigger sympathy and harmony with alienated people which they thrive on for their brain washing.

No self respecting hate group can lure in happy well adjusted people. They have to seem like an marginalization trailer-ed to understand and care about the fringe elements who are aliened from social insinuations.

why should it be brought to anyone's attention that millions of people don't' agree with them? why don't' we start a drive to inform the public that millions of people don't like anchovies on pizza?

Meta, I don't think I'll be posting on here again - not because of you or anything like that, but simply because when I make a post, you make a comment - but there's no provision for me to then respond to your comment (at least, none that I can see. If there is, feel free to show me).

I don't find such a system conducive to real discussion. No offense.

"why don't' we start a drive to inform the public that millions of people don't like anchovies on pizza?"

Because people who don't like anchovies don't do the following things and try to justify them based on their pizza topping preferences:

- Fly airplanes into buildngs

- Protest at funerals

- Refuse medical treatment for their children, sometimes allowing them to die as a result of easily cured medical ailments.

- Try to get science educators in public schools to place less emphasis on theories that are accepted as true by the majority of the scientific community, and more emphasis on theories that are laughed at by the majority of the scientific community.

That's why the IOAUAC cares. (International Organization of Atheists United Against Christianity)

do you think I designed blogger.com? I did not design the system. There is clearly a means of response. I don't why can't figtrue it out. you just go to the comment and make a comment.

don't you see the multiple comments by Hermit?

Brap I thought you were more intelligent than the guys on message who blame all religious people for everything in the world.

It's stupid to equate 9/11 with religion in general. As though atheist never murdered a hundred million people throguh communism.

I'm not stupid enough to say that all atheists are guilty of that.

if you can't see that the Islamic extremism is tied with political realities and marxism and historpy then taht's so typical of atheist to be simple minded, and ignore the complexites and chanel eveyrthing in teir litel chili shinBecause people who don't like anchovies don't do the following things and try to justify them based on their pizza topping preferences:

Religion is evil!all evil! every signal evil thing in the world is the fault of religion!

guilt by association still a fallacy. look it up!

I really was fooled into thinking you aren't a hysterical brained minion of the hate group. It's beginning to look like that's all they have.

Meta, as always, I was simply answering your question about why some people care about other people's beliefs in supreme beings yet they don't care about other people's desire for anchovies. The short answer is that only one of those can cause some people to do things that most of us consider bad. Your question was very similar to one that was recently addressed on The Friendly Atheist blog (http://friendlyatheist.com/2010/12/10/the-best-offense-is-a-good-defense/) and if you read that post you'll see that my response to you wasn't all that original.

I am definitely not saying all religion is evil, although I have no reservations about claiming that none of the good things religious people do requires the existence of a supreme being.

Another reason for the billboards and bus ads is to reach out to the closet atheists and let them know they are not alone. The more members our movement has, the better. There aren't many religious groups that don't try to increase their membership.

Well there's nothing really wrong with atheists having those signs, not even at Christmas. In fact I was thinking today Christ is so ruined already by merchandising and commercialism. the very people who created it as a spending spree, supposedly "pro Christmas" are actually the ruiners of it and those are the most against it.

Believers should start celibrating advent and forget Chrsitmas, no decs, no presies, no satna cluase just a chruch service.

O that would be so boring! We can have "colored light day" for merchants to make money on.

maybe atheists are actually doing a good thing.

they are amusing. No one would would brother with trying to ruin someone else's holiday.

"No one would would brother with trying to ruin someone else's holiday."

Paranoia.

you haven't answered the question I asked in the comments on your other blog (maybe you didn't read this one, you haven't posted it yet...)

If this was a Muslim group advertising their mosque on a bus during the Christmas season would you assume they were doing it as part of a hateful campaign to attack Christians and ruin their "special time"? Would you join the inevitable right wing FOX "News" chorus of condemnation?

Cause that's exactly what you're doing here.

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

no one else does it and no one tries to do it to them. Atheists are the only group that tries to destroy holidays.

You have yet to demonstrate that atheists were trying to destroy anything - and you can't, because they weren't.

Why does a simple "Don't forget we're here" from a few atheists translate into an attack from a hate group? Why do you have this irrational hatred/fear/whatever with atheism?

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

yes that's why they are out renting those bus signs on the fourth of July.

Renting bus signs is no evidence that anyone is trying to ruin anyone's holiday.

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

Apparently these guys put huge stock in their gus signs. Maybe this is their Christmas activity. I'm ruining their holiday.

With the evidence of presented about the vast atheist movement and it's legal wing, it's propaganda wing. Can there be any doubt that the bus signs at Christmas is purposeful strategic plan?

I guess they will claim it's just a coincidence that this loose collection of people who only share a lack of bleief just happen to wind up paying for the same bus signs or that they do it in every country at the same time.

If you say so.

There is no "vast atheist movement" with a "legal wing" and a "propaganda wing", and you haven't presented any evidence that there is. And no, the bus signs aren't a "purposeful strategic plan".

I guess they will claim it's just a coincidence that this loose collection of people who only share a lack of bleief just happen to wind up paying for the same bus signs or that they do it in every country at the same time.

Except that you've not demonstrated this happening in ANY other country. Thus far we have ONE group of atheists who decided to raise a huge $2,000 to put up some signs on local buses. And you have exaggerated this into a worldwide movement with a legal wing and a propaganda wing with (apparently) some huge "strategic plan" - all without the slightest shred of evidence.

Sort of like how Christians destroyed Saturnalia?

Why else would you be celebrating Christ's springtime birth during the Solstice?

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

historical evidence on that? destroyed Saturnalia what do you think Christmas is?

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

so the neo pagans are still hot over something almost 1500 years ago. o no we are keeping them from doing their thing?

I'm not. I think everyone should be able to do their thing. I have never a single anti-Saturnalia bus sign.

I wouldn't put it past the fundies.

Just like you've never seen a single anti-Christmas bus sign.

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

Just like you've never seen a single anti-Christmas bus sign.

the fact of advertising against belief in God at the time of the major Christian holiday is obviously an slap in the face.

It's just not right. We don't have anti-Ramadan bus sings during Ramadan. We don't have signs that say "don't feel good about lots pf candles" during Dualliy.

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

why are you so obsessed with it? you act like criticizing this one thing is going to bring down all of atheism.

...except that there is no advertising against belief in God. All there is is an advertisement reminding people that atheists exist. That is not remotely anti-God, anti-Christian or anti-Christmas.

You know what the real threat against Christmas is, though? It's not atheists; it's those damn ELVES!!!

"Jon Knudsen, the pastor of the Løkken Free Church in the Jutland town of Vendsyssel, loves Christmas, but he hates elves.

This weekend, Knudsen’s hatred for the creature he says “comes from the devil” manifested itself in the form of a mock execution by hanging of a Christmas elf outside his church.

Around the elf’s neck was a sign reading “we reject Satan and all his works and all his empty promises”, a reference to the Christian baptism rite.

Knudsen said decorating with elves at Christmas was “comparable to decorating with Nazi flags”, and described elves of all sorts as “poltergeists that come from the devil and make children sick”."

Makes about as much sense as the reaction to the atheist bus signs...

Joseph Hinman (Metacrock) said...

how is that a reference to baptism? that's nuts. Here are my comments:

(1) Yes htat minister is an idiot. I would do a think what he an idiot he is if I had fundie watch.

(2) you are just itching to read something into the hanging the elf thing. He's really wanting to hang blacks right? That's all Christians want to hang blacks doesn't it?

there you go you proved it.

(3) He's talking about the non Christian part of Chrstimas. Elves don'te exist. You and all the other atheist deny hating God on the grounds "God doesn't exist so how could I hate him." Then how could this guy hate elves, when elves don't exist?

it's a mystery.

pretty stupid but it shows how wrong his shirt was. They look pretty divisible to me.

wrong to make him change his shirt. I didn't say we should take away their bus signs. I'm starting to wonder why the bus signs are so important to you? what do they symbolize?

these guys at this meet were not wrecking a holiday.

" I'm starting to wonder why the bus signs are so important to you? "

They aren't that important to me. I'm just wondering why a self professed liberal like yourself would be jumping on the FOX "News" "War on Christmas" bandwagon.

You haven't answered my question yet, by the way. If this was a local mosque, or Sikh Temple or other religious group advertising it's presence in December would you automatically assume it was an attack on Christianity? If not, why make that assumption just because it happens to be an atheist group?

The article I linked to in the comment you didn't post says the signs were originally planned for July 4. Would that have been an attack on America? And do you just assume that the atheists are lying about the timing? Why? Just because they are atheists?

And that Danish preacher's war on elves makes as much sense as your war on atheist bus signs. That's why I posted it.

If you don't like being compared the right wing nuts don't act like them.

And you still haven't answered my questions. Why is that?

"My actual point you neve denied, that it's indicative of a movement."

what, that atheists believe people can be good without God? Sure. What's wrong with that?

"You go on this long crusade as though I'm trying to take away their right to have bus signs."

I'm trying to get you to recongnize that you are behaving like every other paranoid right wing fundy bigot by taking offence at such an innocuous statement and pretending it['s part of some vast, evil conspiracy.

"I have actually that they are crass and rude and its' indicative of a movement. You can't argue with the former and you have not denied the latter."

Why is it crass and rude to say "we exist and we're not bad people?"
