I just read his defenses of atheism to apologists on the Huffington Post. His argument that we shouldn't believe that Jesus even existed and was crucified (which is contradicted in both Roman and Jewish Sanhedrin texts) is idiotic at best. The statement that since Josephus and Tacitus were born just after Jesus so they can't write about Jesus suggests that anyone today who attempts to write about a recently deceased relative or political figure over the past hundred years shouldn't be taken seriously. Such an argument suggests that anyone today who attempts to write about our ancestors, our leaders, or other influencers who were born before us aren't credible isn't credible! Such an argument says that one can't make a case for the existence of George Washington, Winston Churchill, Mother Teresa, any Catholic Pope, any church leader, our great grandparents, or anyone else in the recent past simply because we didn't live during his/her time (and somehow have no connections to those living during his/her time or government documents, in Jesus' case with Tacitus and Josephus). Sure, we have better methods of record-keeping, yet we're still able to piece together historical documents to craft biographies. Josephus and Tacitus were well within Jesus' time, so their accounts shouldn't be discounted.<br />ChristLovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18046378217841771436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6538255877506581515.post-50852012561887986872015-04-15T19:53:28.384-07:002015-04-15T19:53:28.384-07:00Victor Stenger is ill-informed, foolish, and devoi...Victor Stenger is ill-informed, foolish, and devoid of deep thought.
